Pediatric Dental Care Checkups

The American Academy of Pediatric Dentists (AAPD) advises that children be seen for a pediatric dental care checkup every 6 months. During these twice-yearly visits, Dr. Casiglia will examine your child's mouth to inspect tooth health and to ensure that they are hitting all growth milestones.

Teeth-Strengthening Mineral Application

Dental teeth-strengthening mineral treatments are time-tested, painless treatments that help decrease the number of cavities in children. Because mineral treatments act as an "invisible shield" over the teeth, they can actually reverse the damaging effects of tooth decay!

Protective Dental Sealants

Did you know that a bulk of childhood cavities are present in the rear molars? At Essex Street Dental Medicine, our child dentist applies dental sealants as a way to protect these vulnerable teeth from damaging decay.

Tooth-Colored Fillings

While our kids dental care team does everything they can to prevent tooth decay in our youngest patients, cavities still can happen. At Essex Street Dental Medicine, we will assess your child's situation and, if necessary, provide a tooth-colored filling using gentle restorative techniques.

Same-Day Dental Crowns

Our team may recommend a crown for your child’s tooth if it has a large cavity, was broken or chipped due to trauma, or if the tooth hasn’t developed correctly. Luckily, we can complete the process faster than most general dentists!

At Essex Street Dental Medicine, we use CEREC technology to craft permanent crowns right here in our Salem, MA dental office. With this cutting-edge process, your child won't have to wait two weeks for a permanent crown or attend a follow-up appointment. They will get their dental crown on the very same day as their procedure!

Tooth Extractions

Sometimes Dr. Casiglia recommends tooth extractions for teeth that are too badly decayed to save or for teeth that are developing in a way that could compromise the health of their neighbors. Prior to the tooth extraction, our gentle kids dental care team will ensure that your child is as comfortable as possible.

Wisdom Teeth

Not all wisdom teeth need to be extracted, but in many situations, it’s best to pull the wisdom teeth before they jeopardize the smile as a whole. With specialized diagnostic techniques, our kids dental care team will determine if your child's wisdom teeth growth is causing damage to neighboring teeth - or cannot fully erupt. In these cases, we may consider extraction.

Unlike most area practices, Dr. Casiglia extracts impacted wisdom teeth. This allows your child to receive gentle treatment from the family dentist that they know and trust!

Tongue Tie Release Surgery / Frenectomy

Your child’s tongue is an important part of their oral structure. It affects the position of the teeth, periodontal tissue, swallowing, speech development and nutrition. “Tongue Tie” is a condition where the tissue on the underside of the tongue that connects to the floor of their mouth is too short, limiting the tongue’s range of motion. In infants, it can cause problems with breastfeeding, and in young children, it can cause problems with speech.

Treatment for this condition is relatively simple, and early intervention is key!
